In the first game the Vikings were facing the Herborn Crocodiles who had won the first encounter 5-2, but this time the Vikings delivered a perfect game, winning 9 – 0 (4 – 0).
The Crocodiles hit the goal post in the very first minute but after that the Vikings were able to build up a lot of pressure and managed to disturb their opponents early on in their game. This paid off halfway through the first period when Robert Painter scored the first (and game-winning) goal.
The Vikings stuck to their gameplan, playes solid on defence and were effective in front of the net: Steve Zimmerman led the offense with four goals and two assists, Patrick Zell chipped in a goal and three assists.
In the second game the Crusaders – fueled by a 6-4 win over Bad Nauheim earlier that day – came out strong and scored two quick goals and the Vikings were down 0-2.
The Vikings struggled to adjust to their opponent’s aggressive game but managed to score twice to tie the game before halftime.
After the break the Vikings managed to play by their own rhythm, created more scoring chances and found the back of the net four more times to earn a well deserved 6-2 victory.
Robert Painter and Steve Zimmerman each had a three-point game.
